Today in speech we had a "game day" which for my students, meant, "phew, we get to play." For me, I knew I could target turn taking, eye contact, articulation, language skills, and more! By providing them with a visual they have the opportunity to feel independent. My students could ask their friends to play, make comments, and ask for required game materials.. all WITHOUT me modeling. We used a simple, but engaging game (Don't Break the Ice). I was so excited to hear my student offer his friend a turn and then look at me with the biggest smile on his face. This simple visual encompasses all of the game language your students might need to keep them interacting with their peers. Bottom line: PLAY with your students :)
